Full Job Description

We are looking for an analyst with deep expertise in the Cuban market. Unlike conventional Latin American research roles, you must have the ability to identify commercial logic within an economy of extreme scarcity. Cuba is currently in a unique period defined by an energy crisis overlapping with a "post-60-year" reform and opening-up policy (2026 new regulations). We will rely on you to provide actionable intelligence on local payment creditworthiness, import substitution potential, and policy implementation — to safeguard clients' accounts receivable and supply chain decisions.

Job Responsibilities

1.Forex & Payment Risk Monitoring – Track Cuba's liquidity crisis and client collection cycles. Given widespread payment delays and "non-commercial default" risks, you will need to build dynamic accounts receivable assessment models and monitor the practical feasibility of settlements via non-USD channels (e.g., barter trade, CUP/MTC dual exchange rates).

2. In-depth Policy Interpretation – Follow the implementation details of the new Foreign Investment Law effective 2026, particularly the real-world rollout of wholesale/retail opening to foreign capital and return investment by overseas Cubans. Identify which sectors are genuinely "green-light industries" and where hidden barriers remain.

3. Key Industry Capacity Analysis – Assess Cuba's core pillars and bottlenecks:   - Energy & Mining – Analyze demand for emergency power generation equipment amid the blackout crisis, the rollout pace of solar PV (where Chinese capital is making large-scale inroads), and the production stability of nickel/cobalt in international supply chains.   - Biopharma & Tourism – Evaluate their operational recovery capacity after losing oil support from Venezuela.

4. Supply Chain Performance Risk Assessment – Analyze logistics disruptions caused by fuel shortages (port detention charges, inland transport delays), as well as secondary sanctions risks under Title III of the US Helms-Burton Act against foreign-invested enterprises.

Job Requirements

Proficient in Spanish (able to quickly read Cuba's Official Gazette Gaceta Oficial and the few remaining local independent media sources).

Master's degree or higher in Economics, International Trade, or Latin American Geopolitics.

Familiar with trade structures in high-risk environments: advance payment mechanisms, barter trade, and compliance pathway design via third countries (e.g., Panama, Dominican Republic). Preferred experience: prior work in consulting, trading, or research roles dealing with high-inflation, long-term exchange control markets (e.g., Cuba, Venezuela, Zimbabwe).

Bonus Points:

Existing knowledge of the operating rules of Cuba's Mariel Special Development Zone (ZEDM) and the credit standing of local state-controlled import enterprises.

Understanding of asset "lock-in" cases involving Canadian or European companies in Cuba.
