We're a Michigan-based solo law firm specializing in landlord-tenant law, with an affiliated property management company (Wolf Management). We're in the process of turning a one-attorney operation into a real business, and this is one of our first key hires. We're looking for an Accounting Specialist to take full ownership of our bookkeeping and financial operations.
You'll work directly with the attorney, reviewing daily case filings, credit card transactions, and QuickBooks entries. You'll process vendor payments (all transactions require approval), manage accounts payable and receivable, and handle customer invoicing at month-end. During high-volume periods, you'll cover case overflow and file documents in MiFile as needed.
On the property management side, you'll handle real estate accounting, invoice tenants, and set up systems to charge late fees and CAM charges.
Beyond daily tasks, we want someone who thinks in systems. You'll be expected to improve existing processes and create new ones as the firm grows. This role is foundational to building a more scalable operation.
We need someone with 5+ years of bookkeeping or accounting experience who is proficient in QuickBooks and has strong computer skills, particularly with Excel. Fluent English is required. You must be thorough, review your own work to ensure no errors, and not be afraid to ask for help when uncertain. We're looking for a self-starter who can take ownership without constant oversight.
Experience with legal billing or property management accounting is a plus. This is a long-term, full-time remote position during U.S. business hours (Eastern Time preferred). We're only looking for candidates who want a stable, long-term role — not a short-term gig.
