Sound Distributions is a multi-location automotive electronics retail and installation operator running the Car Toys and Foss Audio & Tint brands across the Pacific Northwest and beyond. We sell and install car audio, tint, remote start, and vehicle accessories, and we operate a fast-paced retail environment where daily accuracy in sales, cash, and inventory is critical.

Position Summary

We are hiring a full-time Accounting & Sales Auditor to own the day-to-day bookkeeping and daily sales audit function across our store network. You will reconcile store sales to cash, card, and financing deposits, review transactions for errors and policy exceptions, maintain clean books in our accounting system, and flag issues to store managers and leadership. This role is ideal for a detail-driven professional who takes pride in tying every dollar to the penny and communicating clearly in writing.

Key Responsibilities

Daily Sales Audit

• Reconcile daily point-of-sale (POS) reports against cash deposits, credit card settlements, and third-party financing batches for each retail location.
• Investigate and resolve variances, missing tickets, voids, refunds, discounts, and price overrides.
• Verify sales tax is captured correctly by jurisdiction and flag anomalies.
• Audit installation labor, parts, and add-on billing against work orders.
• Confirm gift card, deposit, and layaway activity is recorded accurately.

Basic Accounting

• Post daily sales journal entries and record deposits in the accounting system.
• Reconcile bank, credit card, and merchant processor accounts on a weekly and monthly basis.
• Maintain accounts payable: enter vendor invoices, match to purchase orders and receipts, and prepare payments for approval.
• Support accounts receivable follow-up on commercial and fleet accounts.
• Assist with month-end close, including accruals, prepaid schedules, and account reconciliations.
• Maintain organized digital records in OneDrive / SharePoint.

Controls & Reporting

• Enforce cash-handling and refund policies; escalate exceptions to store leadership.
• Produce weekly audit summaries showing variances, aging exceptions, and trends by store.
• Assist with vendor rebate tracking, chargebacks, and warranty claim reconciliation.
• Support annual audit, tax preparation, and ad-hoc requests from the Controller and CEO.

Required Qualifications

• 2+ years of hands-on accounting, bookkeeping, or sales audit experience (multi-location retail, automotive, or hospitality strongly preferred).
• Solid understanding of debits, credits, journal entries, and standard reconciliation workflows.
• Excellent written and spoken English — clear, professional communication with store managers, vendors, and leadership is essential.
• Advanced Excel skills: SUMIFS, XLOOKUP / VLOOKUP, pivot tables, filters, and structured workbooks.
• High accuracy, strong attention to detail, and comfort working with high transaction volumes.
• Ability to work independently, meet daily deadlines, and follow documented procedures.
• Discretion with confidential financial and employee information.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with QuickBooks, NetSuite, Sage, or a similar accounting system.
• Familiarity with retail POS systems and merchant processor reporting (card batches, chargebacks, financing programs such as Synchrony, Snap, Acima, or similar).
• Exposure to Microsoft 365 (Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive).
• Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• Experience auditing installation or service labor billing.

Work Schedule & Environment

• Full-time, Monday–Friday, approximately 40 hours per week.
• Fully remote — work from your home office anywhere in the world.
• Must have a minimum of 4 hours of daily overlap with U.S. Pacific Time (Seattle) business hours, roughly 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM PT, to coordinate with store managers, the Controller, and the CEO.
• Reliable high-speed internet, a quiet work environment, and a modern computer are required.
• Reports directly to the Controller with regular written and video contact with the CEO and store leadership via Microsoft Teams and Outlook.

Compensation

• Full-time contractor engagement paid in USD.
• Compensation is competitive and benchmarked to the candidate’s country of residence, experience level, and demonstrated skill in retail sales audit and accounting.
• Paid monthly via international payment (Wise, Deel, Payoneer, or equivalent — to be agreed).
• Paid time off aligned with local norms after a successful initial period.
• Long-term, stable engagement with the opportunity to grow into a senior accounting role as our multi-location footprint expands.
